Where WhatsApp plainly wins: it is already installed, already open, and the other side does not have to do anything different to receive a file. That is close to zero friction, and docivault cannot get there — we always ask the other side to accept an invite first. If getting a file to someone right now is the only thing that matters, WhatsApp wins.

Is WhatsApp actually unsafe for sending documents?
The transit is genuinely encrypted — that part is not the weak point. The weak point is afterwards: once a file is in the chat, anyone in it can forward it on, there is no access control, and there is nothing resembling a record of who has since seen it.
Why add a step my client will not need on WhatsApp?
For the same reason you would ask them to sign a form rather than agree over voice note: some exchanges need a record and some scoping, and WhatsApp genuinely has neither. For everything else, WhatsApp is probably still fine.
Can a document sent through docivault be forwarded like a WhatsApp file?
Not as a link — there is no forwardable link, and every access is checked against a named signed-in contact rather than a copy sitting in a chat. But once someone downloads the file, that copy is theirs to pass on like any other file; no tool prevents that. What you get is control over who can get a copy in the first place, and the ability to revoke access to stop future ones.
Does docivault work as well as WhatsApp on a phone?
The web app is built mobile-first, so it works in a phone browser today. There is no native app yet — that is on the roadmap, with no date promised.
